- סְתִירָהII f. (סָתַר II) tearing down, destruction. Meg.31b סְתִירַת זקנים … ס׳ the tearing down of the old is building, the building of the young is tearing down; Ned.40a; Tosef.Ab. Zar. I, 19. Tosef.Men.IX, 14 ושל ס׳ מכל מקום ed. Zuck. (Var. סְתוֹר or סִתּוּר) and wood of any kind taken from a torn-down building (or a broken vessel; v. Sifra Vayikra, Ndab., Par. 4, ch. 6; Men.22a עצים … שלא נשתמש בהן הדיוֹט).Trnsf. discontinuance; cancelling. Y.Naz.II, end, 52b סתירת תער כס׳ ממש the interruption of a Nazarites vow brought about by cutting his hair, is like a real annulment (so that he has to begin his nazariteship anew). Ib. V, 55b top לס׳ שלש for cancelling the nazariteship (the obligation to begin it over again), the cutting of at least three hairs is required; v. סָתר II.
